Pirate Quote:
Come, all you brave boys, whose courage is bold,
Will you venture with me? I’ll glut you with gold.
Make haste unto Corona: a Ship you will find,
That’s called the Fancy, will pleasure your mind.

Captain Every is in her, and calls her his own;
He will box her about, boys, before has done.
French, Spaniard, and Portuguese, the heathen likewise,
He has made a war with them until that he dies.
--A Copy of Verses, Composed by Captain Henry Every (1696)

Pirate Article: Henry Every
Known as Henry Avery, John Avery, Long Ben, and Captain Benjamin Bridgeman, Henry Every’s beginning and ending remains cloaked in mystery. During the brief span of time in which he captained a pirate ship, however, he became a legend in his own time.

Next Month: The next new article will publish December 1st, but I’ve not yet decided on the topic.

Please Note: There will be no new article in November. During October and November, I will make corrections to and redesign some pages of my website to delete bad links and obsolete information. In December I return to the monthly publishing of the article, book reviews, and newsletter. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

In the last newsletter, I included three answers from the Jeopardy calendar pages in July.

1. Answer: In 1815, Washington Irving planned to join Stephen Decatur on an expedition against these North African pirates. (July 6th, Value: $400)
2. Answer: Born around 1645, this pirate captain was sent to England for trial and hanged in 1701. (July 7th, Value: $1200)
3. Answer: This Roman ruler was kidnapped by pirates while on a journey to Rhodes around 75 B.C. (July 8th, Value: $2000)

The correct questions are:
1. Who are the Barbary pirates?
2. Who is Captain William Kidd?
3. Who is Julius Caesar?

Hope everyone guessed correctly! If not, you might want to check out past articles since I’ve talked about all three subjects at some point in the last six years.

Until next month,
Cindy

P.S. For those of you interesting in The Scottish Thistle, Amber Quill Press will re-publish my novel in November 2006. The e-book is being released on November 1st, but the paperback will come out around the end of the year. In the meantime, if you’d like to see the new cover art, please visit my excerpt page.
